CaptureSites

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about buying, selling and leasing domains.

General

What is CaptureSites?

CaptureSites is a marketplace for premium domain names. You can buy a domain outright or lease it to own, and every transaction is escrow-protected: the seller is paid only after the transfer is confirmed.

How does CaptureSites make money?

We charge a commission on successful transactions: 10% on buy-now sales and 15% on lease-to-own payments. There are no listing fees or monthly charges for sellers.

Is CaptureSites a domain registrar?

No. We are a marketplace that connects buyers and sellers. Transfers are carried out through our registrar partner, and your domain stays registered with a standard ICANN-accredited registrar.

What types of domains can be listed?

Premium domains across the major TLDs (.com, .net, .org, .io and others). Sellers must own the domain, and it should have a clean history with no trademark issues.

Buying

How long does a domain transfer take?

After payment, the seller has 48 hours to unlock the domain and provide its transfer code. The registrar transfer itself usually completes within 5–7 days. You get email updates when the transfer starts and when it completes.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit and debit cards and US bank accounts (ACH), processed by Stripe. Pay with PayPal is coming soon.

Can I negotiate the price of a domain?

Domains are listed at fixed prices. If you have a question about a listing, contact our support team and we will pass it on.

What happens if the domain transfer fails?

If the seller does not provide a valid transfer code in time, or the transfer fails or times out, you are refunded in full to your original payment method. Your bank may take several business days to show the refund.

Do I get full ownership rights when I buy a domain?

Yes. When you buy a domain outright, it is transferred with you as the registrant, and you can use, transfer or sell it as you wish.

Can I buy multiple domains at once?

Yes, as separate purchases. Each domain is its own escrow-protected transaction.

What if I change my mind after purchasing?

Sales are final once the transfer process begins. If the transfer has not started yet, contact support as soon as possible and we will see whether the order can be cancelled.

Lease-to-Own

How does lease-to-own work?

You pay a fixed monthly amount over 6, 12, 18, 24 or 36 months at 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15% APR respectively. The domain is held in escrow by CaptureSites during the lease, and ownership is released to you when the final payment clears.

Can I use the domain immediately with lease-to-own?

Yes. You manage the domain's DNS during the lease, so you can point it at your website and email from the start. You cannot transfer or sell the domain until the lease is paid off.

What happens if I miss a payment?

Failed payments are retried automatically. If payment still has not been made, you have a 7-day grace period to bring the lease up to date. After that the lease is in default: it ends and the domain is returned to the seller. Payments already collected are not refunded on default.

Can I pay off my lease early?

Contact our support team if you would like to pay off a lease early and we will help you with the options.

What are the interest rates for lease-to-own?

Rates range from 6% APR on a 6-month term to 15% APR on a 36-month term. Shorter terms have lower rates but higher monthly payments. The exact monthly amount is shown before you commit.

Who owns the domain during the lease period?

The domain is transferred into escrow at the start of the lease, with CaptureSites as the registrant. You have exclusive use of it. At payoff the registrant changes to you; if the lease ends in default, the domain goes back to the seller.

Selling

How much does it cost to list a domain?

Listing is free. We only charge a commission when your domain sells: 10% on buy-now sales and 15% on lease-to-own payments.

How do I set the right price for my domain?

Consider length, keyword demand, TLD (.com is usually most valuable), brandability, and recent sales of comparable domains. Offering lease-to-own can also widen your pool of buyers.

When do I get paid after a sale?

Your share is sent to your connected Stripe account once the buyer's transfer is confirmed complete. For leases, your share of each installment is sent when that installment is paid. Stripe's payout schedule then determines when funds reach your bank.

Can I edit my listing after it's published?

Yes. You can update the description, price and lease terms, or pause the listing, from your seller dashboard.

What if my domain doesn't sell?

There is no time limit. The listing stays active until it sells or you pause or remove it. Adjusting the price or enabling lease-to-own can attract more buyers.

Can I sell domains that are currently in use?

Yes. The buyer gains control after the transfer, so coordinate any website or email transition in advance.

Security

How do you protect transactions?

Payments are processed by Stripe and held by CaptureSites until the domain transfer is confirmed. The seller is paid only after a successful transfer; if it fails, the buyer is refunded in full.

What happens if a seller doesn't deliver?

Escrow means the seller is never paid for a domain that does not arrive. If the seller does not provide a valid transfer code or the transfer fails, you receive a full refund.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. Card and bank details are handled by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 certified processor. We never store card numbers on our servers.

How is the seller's transfer code protected?

Transfer (auth) codes are encrypted at rest and used only to carry out the transfer.

What if there's a dispute after the sale?

Contact our support team. We keep a detailed record of every transaction and transfer step and will work with both parties to resolve the issue fairly.

Do you check for trademark issues?

We don't provide legal advice. Sellers must make sure their domains don't infringe trademarks, and buyers should do their own due diligence before purchasing.

Technical

What happens to my website during a domain transfer?

A transfer does not affect hosting, but DNS settings may need updating once the new owner has control. Coordinating ahead of time minimizes downtime.

Can I transfer domains that are locked?

No. Domains must be unlocked at the registrar before a transfer can start. This is a standard security feature.

What if my domain was recently registered or transferred?

Registrars generally block transfers for 60 days after a new registration or a previous transfer, under ICANN rules, so such domains cannot be transferred until that window has passed.

Do you support all domain extensions (TLDs)?

We support most major TLDs, including .com, .net, .org, .io and .co. Some country-code TLDs have restrictions; contact support if you are unsure about a specific extension.

What happens to email accounts during transfer?

Email is usually tied to hosting rather than registration. If you use your registrar's email service, coordinate with the other party to avoid interruption.

Can I transfer domains with privacy protection enabled?

Usually yes, but some registrars require privacy protection to be turned off temporarily. Check with your registrar.

Account

Do I need separate accounts for buying and selling?

No. One account gives you both buyer and seller dashboards.

How do I connect my bank account for payouts?

Sellers connect a Stripe account from the seller dashboard. Stripe verifies your identity and handles payouts to your bank.

Can I change my email address?

Contact our support team and we will help you update the email address on your account.

What if I forget my password?

Use the “Forgot password” link on the login page and we will email you a secure reset link.

Can I delete my account?

Yes. Contact our support team to request deletion. Records of completed transactions may be retained where the law requires it.

Support

How can I contact customer support?

Email support@capturesites.com or use the contact form on this site. We aim to reply within one business day.

What if I need help with the domain transfer process?

Our support team can guide you through each step, from unlocking the domain to confirming the transfer.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. Delivery to your own registrar is included in the listed buy-now price. CaptureSites-hosted delivery separately shows the live registrar transfer cost plus $5, with yearly auto-renewals at the current registrar cost plus $5. Seller commissions remain 10% on buy-now sales and 15% on lease installments.

Do you provide domain appraisals?

No, we don't provide formal appraisals. Comparable recent sales are a good starting point for pricing.
